Here is a picture of our MEHS guys' breakfast Bible study campaigners crew, with our alumni leader Murphy Charles (far left). These are great kids that we meet with every Tuesday morning. Our girls' MEHS groups and SHS groups meet on Friday mornings.
SYL has also been hosting monthly training on connecting with Gen Z. These times have included representatives from eight different churches here in Sitka! We have been in conversation about how to more effectively relate the good news of Jesus to Generation Z. Below is a 12-minute video describing Generation Z. Winter Blast!!
Winter Blast was amazing! In a span of 18 waking hours, we had 45 students from Sitka and Mt.Edgecumbe participate, along with 10 leaders and 10 support staff contributing to the weekend. Great memories were made playing in the snow, playing GROG in the church, and hanging out with friends and leaders. We talked about the deep covenant love of God and processed what that means in our small groups. Church groups and other volunteers brought in tasty food and everyone loved the games, skits, and general goofiness that Young Life is known for. Thanks for being a part of the team that helped make this weekend happen through your prayers and support!

In 2023 we have started the year off great as we get opportunities to be with young people. Our middle school and high school groups are meeting weekly and we have 3 morning Bible study campaigner groups. We also are hosting a monthly community-wide workshop focused on connecting with Gen Z, and on the 24th and 25th of this month, we will host an in-town weekend camp called Winter Blast. Thank you, thank you, thank you for contributing to the ongoing work of Sitka Young Life as we week to reach and support kids in Sitka and around the state. Your prayers and financial support are having a great effect!
What was life like five years ago? Do you remember? Our world is different. Navigating cultural events and their impact on our local communities has required a lot of extra energy. Today kids find themselves dealing with many hard issues and looking for answers- this is where a Young Life leader can make such a difference. Young Life leaders now have an even greater opportunity to reach kids since many of the COVID restrictions have been lifted. Now, more than ever, young people need to hear and experience love and peace, and they need committed adults who will live life alongside them. The Time is now!
This November we are beginning our fall fundraiser. Our goal is to raise $65K to help us meet our fiscal 2022-23 budget. These funds will help cover health care expenses and help pay for a part-time administrative assistant and allow us to continue to grow in needed areas. A generous friend of Sitka Young Life is offering a matching gift of up to $20,000 to help us reach our goal. Over the next few days we will be sending emails that will describe: what has been happening in Sitka Young Life, where we are headed, and our financial need. Please consider helping us with the remaining goal of $45K.

A generous friend of Sitka Young Life has volunteered to do a matching gift of up to $20,000 which leaves us needing to raise $45,000 to make our annual budget
This includes our goal to:
reach our normal fall fundraising of $20,000
additional resources to provide needed health insurance for full-time staff
additional resources to pay for a part-time office administrator: in order to free up the area director to spend time developing the people and ministries including teams to serve high school, middle school, young adults, and church partners.
